Three voices singing their own original songs.
vanessee vulcane takes inspiration from the English and American folk tradition while also being part of a more contemporary movement in the genre, blending indie and pop with a touch of progressive-folk.
Their sober and soulful melodies, bare vocals and acoustic guitars, offers a cocoon for those who let themselves be carried away.
Their intimate and communicative music is shared like a secret, oscillating between a whisper and a heartfelt cry.
For their debut album, the three musicians have chosen nine tracks from their repertoire.
The recording is inspired by contemporary folk creations, highlighting the sobriety of the style. Vocals and lyrics take the spotlight, with guitars – often tuned in the genre’s characteristic « open tuning » – and ukulele as the main instruments. The band has also chosen to add everyday noises and synthesizers to their acoustic sound, gently supporting their initial instrumentation. The band’s recording sessions at 4a soundfactory studio in Normandy and their mixing and mastering work also played a decisive role in the record’s aesthetic.
The album title, sea salt, is an indirect reference to the seascape mentioned in one of their songs (in the bay). It also suggests something more ordinary, such as cooking. It’s a theme that comes up in several of their tracks. Overall, the songs on the album move back and forth between wide open spaces and everyday life.
